The problems

Put a worked-out problem with exactly one error on the board, with numbered lines. Here you only say, per problem, how many lines there are and which one is wrong: students write down a line number, and after they show it the screen marks the line.

Problem 1
Lines on the board6
The error is in line
Choose the line with the error. Without it the screen marks nothing and you name the line.
Number the lines on the board the same way: 1, 2, 3. Otherwise the screen marks a different line than the class sees.
After the reveal
Switching partners is the structure as intended. Staying seated suits a crowded room, or the first time.
What you need
  • A worked-out problem with one error, on the board, with numbered lines
  • 28 mini whiteboards or slips of paper, one per student
An error against a rule makes for a better conversation than an arithmetic slip: then the explaining is about why.
