Steps
- Work in pairs (A and B). Show a text passage.
- Reading: one reads the passage aloud; the other listens or reads along (timer).
- Question: the listener asks a question about the text.
- Answer: the reader answers; together they check if it's right.
- Swap roles for the next passage and repeat.
Settings
- Text passages — required. One per line. You can't start without at least one.
- Reading time — optional, default 60 s.
Tip: generate passages with AI
Out of ideas? Ask Microsoft Copilot: “Give me 4 short text passages (2–3 sentences) about [topic] for students aged [age], one per line.” Paste the lines into the Text passages field.
Tips for the facilitator
Bookmarks or post-its per pair — to mark the correct passage in the text when an answer is wrong
- Have the questioner briefly write down their question before asking it aloud — encourages sharper questions
- Work with longer passages and multiple rounds: a new text section after each role swap
- Language lesson: read texts and ask comprehension questions about content, style or word choice
- Content lesson: process source material through targeted questions about facts, causes or concepts
- Practical subject: read instructional texts and ask questions about steps, sequence or materials
